Chinese Fishing Nets (Cheena Vala)
The Chinese Fishing Nets are the most iconic landmark of Fort Kochi and one of Kerala's most photographed attractions. Believed to have been introduced by Chinese traders during the 14th century, these unique cantilever fishing nets have been in use for centuries and continue to be operated using traditional methods. Stretching along the waterfront near Vasco da Gama Square, the nets offer a fascinating glimpse into Kochi's rich maritime heritage. Sunrise and sunset are the best times to visit, when the silhouettes of the nets against the Arabian Sea create one of the most picturesque scenes in Fort Kochi.
